Pope John Paul II Catholic School Technology Guidelines
Pope John Paul II Catholic School offers students access to a computer resource center connected to the Internet. Use of the Internet and other computer programs is a privilege, which may be revoked at any time for abusive behavior. The purpose of Internet access at Pope John Paul II Catholic School is to support learning, research, and education for the students.
Pope John Paul II Catholic School Internet User Agreement
· I will use the Internet for educational purposes only, such as researching a specific topic for a classroom project.
· I will remain focused on the topic I am researching and log off when the research is completed, not checking email or other social networks I belong to on school computers.
· I will only download text, software, graphics and images that are classroom-related.
· I will observe copyright laws when copying materials from the Internet and not plagiarize other people's work.
· I will ask permission before printing anything.
· I will not give out personal information such as my name, address, telephone number, parents' names, etc.
· I will not review or download material that is vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit, or offensive and will tell my teacher immediately about what I saw.
· I will not use any abusive language or harass another student in writing.
· I understand that my creations are public and permanent.
The Internet is a closely supervised activity and Pope John Paul II does filter websites that are inappropriate, however the Internet is a wide-open system that does contain information and visual images that are not always appropriate for school-age students. The student is responsible for not pursuing material that could be considered offensive.
Consequences: The following consequences will be enforced with each failure to meet the terms of this agreement:
1. First Offense – verbal warning by classroom teacher and notification to the technology coordinator and principal
2. Second Offense – Internet privileges will be taken away for 5 school days, notification to technology coordinator and principal, behavior plan issued by classroom teacher.
3. Third Offense – Internet privileges will be taken away for 20 school days, notification to technology coordinator and principal, parent phone call made by the classroom teacher.
4. Fourth Offense – Internet privileges will be taken away for a calendar year.
Parents should feel free to call their student's teacher or the school's technology coordinator to discuss any concerns they may have about access to the Internet.
Parents of students in Grades 3-8 and their children must sign the Technology Guidelines annually before his/her children will have access to the computer room.
